Basically every farmer, community and nation has the rights to decide their own agricultural management and food stock with local knowledge, economic, social and ecologically friendly. That is why the land degradations on agriculture shall be overcome by implementing sustainable agricultural system, which respect local initiatives and refuse global chemical agriculture industry.

The agriculture system has been a victim of national and international globalization of industry. The green revolution, which insisted by the government in early 70s, had proven the bad impacts on environment, not only on the fields, but also to the air and water. It also decreases the microorganisms, which fear the live of human beings.

There is a need to establish people movement to regain the sovereignty for farmers and sustainable agricultural system. The Indonesian Organic Farming Network (Jaker PO) was established to support the organic movements in Indonesia. Jaker PO is a national umbrella organization, the members come from NGOs and farmer groups as an association and private sectors, we do not have an affiliation to government or business institutions and respect the diversity of races, religions, colors and gender.

Jaker PO was established in Yogyakarta on 10th September 1998 which was initiated by some NGOs activists and farmer groups. There are more than 60 members of NGOs and farmer groups across the archipelagos and we are open to receive new members. There are 5 steering Committees selected at the General Assembly that we hold every 3 years. The General Assembly will decided the main program for the next 3 years and other issues and the progress of organic farming movement in Indonesia.
